Waldhaus Club House is now a restaurant but in 1928 was the start of the golf course designed by Canadian born Stanley Thompson. Stanley was really known for his bunkering, and we’ve been told, “that these are the best examples of Stanley’s bunkers here at the Banff Springs,” according to Steve Young, Director of Golf. “These days, a lot of courses might put 30, 40, 60 bunkers on their course; we have over 150 on just 18 holes.” Many of the courses Thompson designed still remain on top 100 lists around the world, almost one hundred years after they were constructed when players would have used a hickory club and a feather filled golf ball placed on a wooden tee.Stanley Thompson has been recognised posthumously as a Person of National Significance and is a member of both the Canadian Golf and Sports Halls of Fame.
