Vaisigano is the political district of Sãmoa and the capital is Asau. There is a conservation area with turtles in the village of Auala, and a rainforest reserve at Falealupo. The Apia Protestant Church is on the Main Beach Road. There is complete religious freedom in Sãmoa, and 98 per cent of the population are Christians. Also on the Main Beach Road is the Sheraton Sãmoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and bungalows, a luxurious hotel overlooking the sea.
A notable feature is the new bridge, which was constructed with the help of the Japanese government. It was opened on 11 August 2020, and officially dedicated in a ceremony on 28 August. It replaces an earlier bridge built in 1953, seriously damaged by Cyclone Evan in 2012, and took seven years to plan.
