In 1993 a concerned local resident approached Greenwich Mural Workshop with plans to regenerate the local park to provide a safe space for the local children to play in. The old park was unkempt and littered with rusted play equipment. In collaboration with the local school and neighboring residents, Greenwich Mural Workshop constructed two Parks between Creek Road and the River Thames financed through fundraising. The Twinkle Park Steering Group was established to take on the Twinkle Park project and decided to keep its original charm as a green oasis hidden next to the river Thames surrounded by 100 year old London Plane Trees. However upgrades to the space include the installation of a large water feature, wildlife gardens and interestingly a mosaic floor compass created by the Greenwich Mural Workshop. In 1999 the Steering Group passed on the management of the Park to Twinkle Park Trust, who lease the park from Greenwich City Council. An Amenity Horticulture and Park Management Training Scheme has been set up to help tackle the areas high unemployment rate by providing employment opportunities for local youth. The Scheme also creates a skilled group of individuals who are able to help maintain the park.Â
