Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien is a historical site where Brunei declared independence in 1984. Today it serves as a large stadium used for ceremonial events. National Day and the Sultan’s birthday are celebrated here. This monument has gardens designed to commemorate the city’s name changed to Bandar Seri Begawan. Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien offers beautiful views of the mosque of Omar Ali Saifuddien. The stadium’s entrance gates are also impressive. That being said, the gates are not always opened. The rest of the site is not restricted and can be accessed through smaller gates on the sides of the square.
