Provost Park was named after Brigadier-General Sir George Prévost (1767-1816), Lieutenant Governor of Saint Lucia from 1798 to 1802. He dealt with the French in a conciliatory manner, helped by his knowledge of their language and for this, he was created a baronet. The area was used as a lookout point over Castries Harbour, the Vigie Peninsular, Rat and Pigeon Island and in days gone by a few men would be stationed there with muskets. It has lately been designated as the site for the National Heros Park.
