Pier Pavilion

Australia / The Pacific

The Pier Pavilion Rooftop in Broadwater Parklands was opened in 2009 as part of the first stage of the sustainable redevelopment of Southport’s urban waterfront. The 33.5 hectare parklands provide a range of recreation and entertainment spaces, as well as hosting some of the city’s flagship events. As the highest point of the parklands, the Pavilion’s rooftop terraces and footbridge offer commanding views across the Broadwater and to the Surfers Paradise skyline. The building is home to a café and community facilities, while the rooftop is a popular venue for private and corporate events. The colour and materials used in the building were designed to reflect the white hulls and sails of the boats which moor in the adjacent Broadwater. The footbridge links the rooftop to the nearby Rockpools water playground. The coastal themed Rockpools offer water fountains, marine-themed play equipment, a creek bed and tidal pools for children to explore.
