The Old Bank Arcade is an impressive historic building at the gateway of Lambton Quay, the ‘main street’ of Wellington.Completed in 1901, the building was designed by Thomas Turnbull, a notable New Zealand architect. It is located on the site of the remnants of the ship Inconstant, which became Plimmer’s Ark, a very early store owned by prominent Wellingtonian John Plimmer around the 1850s. You can view the remains in the basement of the Old Bank Arcade.
