Museum of Saint Helena is one of two museums on the island. This museum’s collection displays the maritime, military and social history of the island. The museum is managed by the Saint Helena Heritage Society. It was first opened in 1854. At this time the collection even included a flying lizard and a sea serpent. This newly refurbished museum includes physical and digital archives of images, video and documents all relating to Saint Helena’s heritage. This is the best site to visit if you want to understand Saint Helena’s history and culture.
