The Maritime Museum at the Swing Bridge Maritime Terminal is located on the banks of Haulover Creek. It was opened in 1996 so as to enlighten visitors about ship voyages and the history of shipbuilding through a number of model boats, documents, interpretative displays, paintings and photographs. The upper level of the museum contains exhibits relating to Mayan culture, while the lower level is dedicated to the countries, their origin, the life of local artists and the tragic period of slavery. The Coastal Zone Museum depicts the ecology of the coral reefs. Other displays include the Buenavista Vase in the Maya exhibit, the earliest postal stamp bearing Queen Victoria’s picture and the prison cell.
