The City Hall & Arts Centre is at 17 Church Street. A handsome white building it houses Bermuda National Gallery on the first landing, containing Bermuda’s national collections of art, the Bermuda School of Arts which displays and sells creative artworks. There is also a grand room which is used for important receptions where members of the Royal Family and others have met and been entertained. The City Hall Theatre was renamed as the Earl Cameron Theatre to honour the famous Bermudian actor, Earlston (Earl) Cameron, CBE (1917-2020). He played James Bond’s Bahamian assistant, Pinder, in Thunderball (1965), and in a cameo role as a portrait artist in The Queen (2006). Living to be 102, he is remembered as one of the first black actors to break the ‘colour bar’ in the United Kingdom.
