All the ancestors of Krios passed through King’s Yard Gate. This Gate stands on Tower Hill in the military Martello tower which was built in 1805. Today it is the site of the Connaught Hospital. This is where the British brought slaves in order for them to begin their lives. These rescued slaves would pass through King’s Yard Gate to await resettlement and medical care by the British. Many of these resettles would climb the nearby Portuguese steps (also known as Old Wharf Steps). The Gate is one of the few things left behind from when the Kreols came back from the Caribbean to settle here.
